Who We Are

Practice Overview

  • Rayner Eye Clinic & Surgery Center is North Mississippi's most comprehensive ophthalmology practice, providing full-scope medical, surgical, and routine eye care.
  • Founded in 1915 as The Guyton Clinic by Dr. Billy Sylvester Guyton in Oxford, Mississippi — one of the oldest continuously operating eye care practices in the South.
  • The practice was renamed Rayner Eye Clinic in 1975 when Dr. Jim Rayner introduced intraocular lens implantation combined with cataract surgery — a technique unavailable anywhere else in the region at the time.
  • In 2004–2006, Dr. Tom Tann and Dr. Doty Farmer acquired the practice, ensuring continuity of its century-long legacy.
  • In 2022, the clinic moved to its current state-of-the-art 19,000-square-foot facility at 2606 South Lamar Boulevard in Oxford — equipped to deliver the full spectrum of advanced ophthalmic care under one roof.
  • Service area covers North Mississippi and surrounding regions, with patients traveling from throughout the greater Memphis metropolitan area, Delta communities, and neighboring states.
